"All About Alice" - PRS (June 13, 2024)

A hidden gem in Los Feliz, the landmark Philosophical Research Society is celebrating Pride Month with a screening of All About Alice (1972) on Thursday, June 13. Spearheaded by filmmaker Ray Harrison, the Gay Girls Riding Club (GGRC) took Californiaā€™s 1960s underground gay scene by storm with drag spoofs of classic Hollywood films. Produced on less-than-shoestring budgets, these were truly fearless examples of DIY gay filmmaking - gloriously tawdry and trashy with a pre-John Waters / Divine sensibility that also managed to be loving homages to the mainstream melodramas and spy films that they parodied.

PRS is screening a restored version of Harrison's All About Alice, a feature-length roast of All About Eve. Tickets are $10 and on sale at Eventbrite.

Rooftop Cinema Club offers a premier outdoor movie experience at LEVEL in Downtown LA. On Sunday, June 16, RCC presents a special Father's Day screening of The Birdcage. A week later, RCC presents To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo star as three New York drag queens on their way to Hollywood who get stranded in a small Midwestern town when their car breaks down. While waiting for parts, the flamboyant trio shows the local homophobic rednecks that appearing different doesnā€™t mean they donā€™t have humanity in common. Before the movie, enjoy a live drag show by Drag Me to the Movies!
